Why is Metaco willing to display a list of capabilities?
Every metal fabrication manufacturer has its own range of fabrication capabilities, and the willingness to present and display them truthfully demonstrates the honesty of the manufacturer.
Metal fabrication involves many segments, such as welding, stamping, machining, sheet metal fabrication, and heavier ones such as casting. Generally speaking, most all manufacturers are not all-rounders, but only excel in individual areas. But as you can see on their websites, many manufacturers claim to be able to do almost all metal fabrication services.
Metaco is different, and Metaco is willing to be truthful about its fabrication capabilities. We have a list demonstrating the in-house and out-house capabilities, and with scores we self estimated. As you can see from the list, we only excel in welding and metal stamping, and even in automated turning, we only work on parts up to 20mm in diameter, and for bigger ones we have to work with expert manufacturers who can do it well. Capability like casting we don’t have in-house, neither do we found a capable partner in this industry nearby. In case of our customers send inquires that we don’t specialized in, we simply refuse and avoid time wasting of our customers.
It should be emphasized here that once outsourcing is involved, it is inevitable that excess costs will be incurred, leading to a decline in competitiveness. Critically, the quality challenges associated with outsourcing cannot be ignored. If the outsourced manufacturer does not match our acceptance criteria, it will lead to failure to deliver properly. We would rather limit our capabilities, i.e., only work with outsourced manufacturers that we are skilled in working with, than risk expanding our capabilities in the pursuit of profits and creating quality and delivery problems for our customers.
